Perform at Your Best

Every individual is an athlete. Whether it be playing a sport or lifting an object off the ground. You are performing some compound movement that leads to the entire kinetic chain engaging in proper order. So, how do we identify if we are doing this efficiently, effectively, and safely?

If you have been to our office you have probably heard us throw around a few acronyms including SFMA and FMS. So, here is a little bit deeper explanation of them…

If you look into the (FMS) Functional Movement Systems programming, you will see an overwhelming amount of testing and assessments to be used to develop proper movement pattern, increase functional capacity, and improve sport performance.

Step 1: The entry point begins with the Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA).

·      The SFMA is the clinical assessment for people experiencing pain. It is a systematic approach to identify the source and cause of the pain by breaking down a globally faulty movement pattern.  By identifying the global faulty pattern breakouts are warranted allowing the clinician to focus on a concept called REGIONAL INTERDEPENDENCE- How unrelated problems are actually driving a dysfunction.

Identifies if the source of pain is a Stability Motor Control Disorder or a Mobility Disorder

Step 2: Functional Movement Screen (FMS). THE MOVEMENT LAB.

·      Clinical Discussion of SFMA --> FMS progression

·      Recognition of movement patterns for work, sports, or daily activities

·      Dynamically stress the system to see movement patterns playing into personal fitness goals

·      Create an exercise routine with precise to amplify and direct movement and exercise progression for maximal improvement.

Step 3: Performance Testing and Sport Specific Testing

·      Produce Power

·      Store and utilize energy

·      Utilized to focus and generate sport specific training efficiently and effectively

Why do we think this is important?

·      In house directed plan by identifying goals and driving you towards this

o   There is no disconnect between your healthcare provider and your trainer allowing for maximum training performance and capacity

o   There is a team of experts focusing on your goals and movements

·      Safe and effective training programs. Clinical discussion is held to keep the team informed of improper movement or patterns that need to be challenged or focused on in order to identify the best exercise
